Before you assume the laptop is dead, do this: unplug the charger, remove the battery if it comes out, and hold the power button down for a full 60 seconds. Stop immediately if: the case is bulging, you smell burning or hot plastic, liquid was spilled on it, or a hard drive is making a rhythmic clicking sound.
